The Big Story

This Thursday my staff partner and I took two of our students to Proxe Station training at CU Boulder. Proxe Stations are an amazing outreach tool designed by staff in the great lakes region. It uses fine arts, interaction and conversation to introduce students to the Christian faith and invite them into further investigation with bible studies designed specifically for seekers. I had an incredible hour long conversation with a girl named Sarah who has felt increasingly suspicous and distant from the Christian faith she originally grew up in. Even so she has a deep longing for spirituality. I wasn't able to answer all her questions but I shared some of "the big story" with her and convinced her to leave behind her contact information so she could be with other people asking the same questions as they look at the life of Jesus for answers. "The big story" is an evangelism tool designed in San Diego. I decided to began reading the book
"True Story: A Christianity Worth Believing In" by IVCF staffworker James Choung, that it comes from. I already had it as IVPress regularly sends me books to share with students and enhance my ministry. This may be the read of the year and I recommend it to everyone. Both the book and "the big story" that came out of it places what our faith means in context and refuses our tendancy to make our beliefs serve us instead of being challenged by truth. I have attempted to include the video of James Choung sharing it.

What is InterVarsity?

August kinda like bullet train

It's already Sept 14th and my brilliant plan to share more stories by blogging has been foiled. Here is a quick one. Friday, Aug 15 the first week of class, I was glad that the floating couch I drive has six seatbelts. Three freshman, and two sophomores who were with us last year crammed into my car to go to a Wii tournament we had arranged as an outreach event. It was really wonderful to spend time with these new students. The house we had the party in was crowded but full of really good conversations inbetween Wii tennis. Chantel one of our sophmores was wonderful at engaging new students and its fun to see her grow up with the chapter. Continue to pray with me that the students we met the first month of class will become involved in our weekly bible studies and groups.

I'll take all the prayer I can get

I was sitting in between Synergy Cafe and Silver Mine Subs in between meeting with supporters. I was sitting there in the sun writing thank you notes to some prayer supporters when a Silver Mine Subs delivery guy came over saying something about the weather and "whoever it is that controls it." It was as if he was aching to talk to God or God was aching to talk to him. "Oh yeah, I kinda work for him" I said. "Oh, uh what are you working on there?"
"I'm writing thank you notes to people who pray for me. I really appreciate that people are praying for me, I'll take all the prayer I can get" I answered. "I could really use some prayer right now" So I asked him if I could pray for him, and I got to pray for John whom God fully knows and fully loves. Then he was on his way to make his next delivery. I was hoping I would run into John again before I returned home. Hear more of his story, where he was with God, help him find a place he can continue to be prayed for and challenged. I didn't though. Maybe you'll run into him, or someone else who could really use some prayer. Thank you for praying for me, I really will take all the prayer I can get. What a joy to work for the one who is in control of weather and everything else.

So that you can pray for me

In this day and age communication can be so immediate, and so impersonal. I usually am slow to get on the technology boat because I so prefer face to face communication. So this blog is no replacement for more personal communication. However so often situations needing prayer or praise come and go so quickly that no one hears about them. So this site's complete purpose is to inform and invite prayer and discussion around the ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. This is my work and my vocation, and it is a mind boggling privilege to do this work where so many people join me and help me. Thank you for taking the time to check this blog. Now if you wouldn't mind, say a little prayer for me. Blessings
